The Clock Strikes Midnight

Taylor Swift released her 10th studio album, and fans are so excited.

Anticipation has been building up, merch has been released, and fans have made their predictions. After weeks of excitement, Taylor Swift has finally released her 10th studio album.

“When I heard that she was releasing this new album, I was so shocked and happy,” junior Caro Garcia-Oliver said. “Us fans have been waiting for new music for so long, so this was so exciting.”

The “All Too Well” singer surprised fans with the announcement of the album at the 2022 VMAs. The 13-track LP is described as “the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered throughout my life,” and “a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams.”

Along with the release of the album, she released an expanded version of the album very soon after, titled “Midnights (3am Edition),” with seven more songs. The extra songs were very popular among fans. Taylor Swift also released the music video for the track “Anti-Hero” at 8 a.m. on Friday.

“I love it as of right now even though I expected it to be kind of sadder! I loved the 3 AM Tracks!” senior Kristina Guerra said.

Swifties have been anticipating a new pop album for years, after her two indie-folk sister albums “Folklore” and “Evermore”, and “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)” and “Red (Taylor’s Version),” re-recordings of two of her older albums. Swift has really done everything, starting as a country artist, transitioning to a full-blown pop star, and then dabbling in folk. Fans anticipated her 5th album in 3 years to finally be a new pop album.

The album is a deep dive into Swift’s insecurities and thoughts, and the lyrics are reflections of life’s pressures and the meaning of love. The 3rd track called “Anti-Hero” is a dive into Swift’s insecurities of not feeling like a person. In the song, she says’ “I’ll stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror / It must be exhausting always rooting for the anti-hero.” She worries of her fame overshadowing her private life, and depicts her thoughts of often not feeling like a person and being portrayed as the villain.

“I can honestly say this album, although unexpected, is one of my new favorites,” junior Emily Perez said. “I love almost every song, and I think everyone should listen to it!”
