Vivi Ros, Staff Writer

Our Lourdes girls have been voting for Senior Coco Aguilar who was nominated for Miami Herald’s student athlete of the week. This midfielder deserves her recognition.Aguilar has attacked the midfield and has made many assists throughout her soccer career and is now Miami Herald’s athlete of the week.

1.What do you think sets your team apart from other teams in the league?

I think Lourdes soccer is very unique because we are a family. We play for each other and for our school. This year is also very different because we have a bigger purpose. We are playing for our captain and teammate Katy.

2.What do you think is the most important quality for a successful soccer player?

I think the most important quality for a successful soccer player is drive. It is not all about how much skill you have or how fast you are, even those qualities are very important, but it is more about how much you want it. If you play with heart and maximum effort, it makes all the difference.

3.What’s your favorite position to play and why?

My favorite position to play is Attacking Midfield because I like to be in the middle of the field and able to help on defense and also be able to score and assist.

4.Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?

Before each game the whole team waves at the veo that films our games waving to Katy, I look up at the sky and tell Lucy to help me play my best, I do a small handshake with my teammate Becca, I pour water all over my legs and arms right before the game to wake up my body, and I scream at my team “Let’s Go Lourdes!” to get them hype.

5.How do you stay motivated during long seasons or when the results aren’t going your way?

I think getting a loss is good sometimes so the team can feel how horrible the feeling is, and motivate us to never have to feel that way again. We all stay motivated during the long season because we all have our one goal, which is to make it to states and win.

6.How do you feel about being nominated for Miami Herald’s player of the week?

I feel very honored and happy about being nominated, and I am very grateful for my team, friends, and family that voted for me.

7.What was the best advice anyone ever gave you about playing soccer?

The best advice someone gave me about playing soccer was “Give 100% always”. No matter if it is practice or a game, to always give full effort.

8.What is your favorite thing about being a bobcat?

My favorite thing about being a bobcat is the sisterhood and the unity. The fact that I know I will always have my Lourdes friends and teammates by my side whenever I need them.

9.How do you stay in shape during the off-season?

I stay in shape during the off-season by participating in cross country and track and field.

10.How does being part of a team make you a better individual player?

Being part of a team makes me a better individual player because I always have my teammates to encourage me to do better and motivate me to be the best I can be.
