On October 22, Lourdes hosted its first-ever on-campus Halloween service event, Lola’s Spooktacular, welcoming 170 students from Mater Academy, a local K–8 charter school. From 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., the grotto transformed into a carnival-style celebration filled with games, crafts, candy, and plenty of spooky fun.
Students volunteered in two key roles for this Service Learning Event. Some served as Guides, each paired with a Mater Academy student to escort them through the event and help them make the most of their Halloween afternoon. Others volunteered as Booth Attendants, helping run the creative stations hosted by different clubs, honor societies, and ministries.
Each booth offered something different from the Lola Tech Club’s gaming setup, complete with movable TVs and split-screen Nintendo games, to the Environmental Club’s dart-to-bullseye challenge.
The campus came alive with excitement the moment the Mater Academy students arrived on buses dressed as superheroes, princesses, and cartoon characters. Laughter echoed through the halls as new friendships formed and Lourdes students saw the impact of service through simple acts of fun and kindness.
“I served as a guide, and my student Caleb was dressed as a skeleton. Seeing the smile on his face reminded me what service really means how a little time out of my day could mean everything to him,” said senior Kristine Villena ’26.
As the afternoon came to an end, one thing was clear: Lola’s Spooktacular was more than a Halloween celebration, it was a reminder of Lourdes’ spirit of compassion, community, and fun.
