Turkey Run for a Cause

The Annual Thanksgiving Drive for those in need organized by the office of Institutional Advancement is currently taking place. Every year the school gets together and donates canned foods and turkeys to communities in need.

“We prepare baskets that have enough food for the needy families to have for a week,” Special Events, Parents’ Guild & Alumnae Coordinator, Marta Castellanos, said.

This year due to the pandemic these families are in further need of help. Their community has been hit hard by the coronavirus.

“We reach out to almost 600 families who are still in need. This year even though we are suffering just means they are suffering even more,” Mrs. Castellanos said.

Although students are not allowed to help distribute the meals this year, their help is still needed. The Institutional Advancement Office is collecting canned food for the food drive and collecting money for the turkey run.

“This year we are going to need help sorting cans, either Tuesday Nov. 10, after school or next Wednesday, Nov. 18,” Mrs. Castellanos said.

The class that collects the most of their designated food cans will be rewarded with a prize at the end of the drive. The last day to bring in cans is Friday November 13.

The OLLA community can also contribute to this food drive by purchasing $10 turkeys that will also be donated to the families in need and also earn the class spirit points.

“We started collecting cans in 2004 and I want to say that the generosity of this community increases every year, so every year we give more than the last,” Mrs. Castellanos said.
