New Leaders Look Ahead

School Elects Executive Board for 2021-2022

As the 2020-2021 school year nears its end, the new executive board has been elected. The process for candidates is long and nerve-wracking every year, and this year, being amidst a pandemic, OLLA had to change up the agenda.

As opposed to giving speeches in front of a gym packed with Lourdes girls, the candidates made short videos for their campaigns. The videos were then played for the students, followed by a brief live symposium where each candidate answered one question. After the student body voted, the election results were announced on the Lourdes Instagram.

“Getting elected has to be one of the best feelings because you can see that all your work was worth it in the end,” junior Emma Granda said.

The newly elected executive board is made up of Emma Granda as President, Felice Dong as Vice President, Paulina Gonzalez-Brito as Secretary, and Mia Hernandez as Treasurer.

Even with the new format this year, the students adjusted to the new format and worked hard through it all.

“Overall I thought the process was a refreshing and new way to have the voters be able to see a different side of us and I had a lot of fun making the video,” junior Mia Hernandez said.

Running for executive board has been a goal for many of the candidates for years. The girls knew it would take a lot of time and effort, so they did their very best to achieve these goals.

“I’ve always looked up to the girls on EB and have always wanted to lead the school like they do so I am honored to have been given this amazing opportunity. I can’t wait for next year,” junior Paulina Gonzalez-Brito said.

The students are excited for the upcoming year, and can’t wait to work alongside the student council, admin, and the whole student body to bring everyone back together after an unprecedented school year.
