Our seniors took home the trophy at the 3rd annual Polar Palooza, a lip-sync battle between Lourdes and Belen seniors, on Friday, December 2nd. It was a fun-filled event to collect toys and raise money for Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, and a great way for sisterhood and brotherhood between the schools.

Seniors from our school and Belen Jesuit competed for the win for who had the best lip-sync dances. Judges made the decision based on different factors, like choreography, togetherness, and the level of how much they were able to engage the audience.

“I laughed so hard watching all the dances. Watching the boys try to dance was so funny,” said senior Sofia Trivino.

There were five teams of about 10 people from each school, with their own theme, choreography, and mashup of popular songs. They each had 1-minute intro videos, which were skits to introduce their themes, ranging from Secret Lives of Elves to Love at Frost Sight.

“My favorite dance was Danger in the Manger. Their choreography was the best and it was super entertaining,” said senior Anabella Palacios. Danger in the Manger was one of the Lourdes dances, and it won the People’s Choice vote.

The boys from Belen have won the past two years, but Lourdes finally took their well deserved trophy home this year. Each Lourdes dance went against one Belen dance, and a winner was picked for each round. Lourdes won 3 out of the 5 rounds, taking the crown of lip-sync champions.

The entertaining performances couldn’t have been done without the dedication of both Lourdes and Belen students. Each team worked very hard to perfect their dances, spending hours choreographing and rehearsing.

“We practiced every single day of Thanksgiving break,” said senior Sarah Broe. “It was so much work, but I think it paid off.”

Along with the endless laughs and sister and brotherhood, the event was a wonderful act of service for the children at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Each audience member was to bring an unwrapped toy or ten dollars to contribute to the holiday drive.

The end of the show concluded in cheers and happiness when Lourdes won for the first time. It was truly a night filled with joy, hard work, and fun that we will never forget.
