Juniors and Seniors Light the Night at Winter Formal
December 15, 2022
On December 10, the class of 2023 and 2024 attended the annual Christmas formal at the University of Miami’s Shalala Student Center. Being the first ever Winter Formal for the junior class, since the pandemic restricted our school from hosting, this year’s formal, “Light the Night,” had been well anticipated.
Christmas Formal was a lovely event full of dancing and great company. Throughout the night, students anticipated the crowning of Ms. Navidad, where Beatriz Nuñez was awarded the title, with Alexandra Puig as runner-up.
“ Winning Ms. Navidad was such an honor and it was definitely very memorable,” said senior Beatriz Nunez.
The formal provided a variety of different buffet style foods and drinks for the guests. Penne pasta, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, and an assortment of desserts were offered to the guests. In addition to this, a coffee bar was offered with a variety of options which many of the students enjoyed.
“I loved the food and drinks at formal. I especially enjoyed the coffee station and was shocked at the different possibilities of milk and brew,” said senior Sofia Santa-Cruz.
Even though our students had a great time at Formal, many of them have been complaining about the overall cost of this event. Between the hair, makeup, ticket, pre-party, and transportation, it can get very costly. This year’s formal costs have many girls concerned about the future expenses of prom later this school year.
“Personally, this year made me realize how expensive formal can get. My freshman year formal didn’t total out to this much money,” said senior Catalina Giorgio.
Despite the cost controversy, it’s safe to say that the OLLA community is pleased about the return of Winter Formal. After hearing the upperclassmen’s experience at Formal this past weekend, freshmen and sophomores are eagerly awaiting their Formal, which will take place on February 25.
