Varsity Basketball Dominates the Court
Basketball season has arrived and the Bobcats fight to dominate the court. The district winning champions practice six days a week for two hours. They have games every week and are committed to the team.
Coaches Mr. Mckeon, Jose Merdjane, and assistant coach and former player Mel Jordan ‘14 have built a strong and stable group of athletes.
Mr. Mckeon has been coaching basketball for about 22 years. He dedicates his time and patience to the girls and has a strong passion for the sport.
“I’ve met some of my best friends on the team and I love being with them everyday,” Senior Claudia Alessandrini said.
Alessandrini’s older sister, Andrea ‘15, was on the team and now Claudia continues the basketball legacy in her family.
The team consists of seven seniors: Paulina Serrano, Ana-Sofia Sanchez, Isa Perez, Olivia Izquierdo, Andrea Luna, Claudia Alessandrini, and and Amand Duran. The girls have been playing together since freshman year and have built unbreakable bonds.
Their senior night was January 19th in the schools Gymnasium at 7pm. The Bobcats took home the win with a score 52-12 against Coral Gables.
“The sport holds a special place in my heart and everyday I look forward to practicing and learning new skills,” Sophomore Michelle Fallero said.
Falero has been on varsity since freshman year and has extreme determination towards basketball.
So far the season is looking strong with wins and losses. The team has won nine games but lost six. They recently had a three-week winning streak.
The Bobcats hope to continue their journey to the district championships and have a few exciting games to come with the season ending in February.
