Bobcat’s Big Break
The school officially has it all. From amazing teachers, athletes, and scholars to now, a national commercial star. Freshman Jolie Cartaya is the face of the new Dupixent commercial which is currently airing in every home and on every TV.
Dupixent is an eczema medication injection currently being used by more than 400,000 people. Cartaya was actually getting the shot when they were still in the testing process, as a study, when they asked her to do the commercial, an opportunity she was thrilled about.
“Shooting the commercial was one of the best experiences of my life,” Cartaya said. “We actually shot two commercials, the first one was in 2020, during Covid in Daytona Beach and the second one was filmed in July in Mexico.”
Even though filming two national commercials is an experience most people can only dream of, Cartaya said that her favorite thing about it was not the idea of being on TV or getting to feel like an actress, but rather getting to share such a unique experience with her friends, creating a bond that will last a lifetime.
This was a great opportunity and milestone for Cartaya, who hopes to become an actress in the future. She says that if she had the opportunity to star in a commercial again, she would say yes within a heartbeat.
“Since I can remember I’ve always wanted to be an actress or work in TV somehow, I could maybe even be a news anchor,” said Cartaya. “Which is why I genuinely think that this commercial was so great for building up my resume and profile and in giving me experience for my hopefully future career in the film industry.”
Cartay is determined to make her dreams come true by putting in the work and taking voice classes from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M. and acting classes from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. every Thursday.
“I think that even though it is a lot of hard work, everything I’m doing is worth it because at the end of the day, it is my passion,” Cartaya said. “A lot of people will pass up on many opportunities because of what other people might say about them or what others may think, but I think they should just follow their passion,” Cartaya said.
