One of the school’s most beloved traditions, the annual Mother-Daughter Mass, took place this year on Sunday, September 17 in the gym. Students brought their mothers to celebrate a beautiful mass and enjoy a reception in the Grotto afterwards. This was a great way for the school community to come together and thank God for the love and support mothers give.
Lilliana Farinas graduated in 1993 and still holds the memory of the mass close to her heart.
“I still remember my Mother-Daughter masses and I am so glad I now get to share that same experience with my daughter,” Farinas said.
One of the most iconic parts of the mass is when mothers and daughters hold hands and repeat a statement of love, apology, and forgiveness to each other. The sentimental moment allows for participants to connect with their mothers on a more personal level.
“I love this part of the mass because it’s really nice to be able to genuinely thank my mom for everything she does and apologize for all those times I didn’t,” senior Nicole Wendleken said.
The mass was followed by a reception and light refreshments in the Grotto and the patio. This was a time for mothers to get to know each other and for students to show them around the school. During the reception, a lot of old friends also reconnected.
“I saw so many people I graduated with that have daughters in Lourdes now,” Farinas said. “It was nice to see how many of us decided to send our girls to the same school that gave us so much.”
Anybody who attends the Mother-Daughter mass cherishes the memories for years. Whether their moms came for high school or not, it is a perfect way to celebrate the gift of a mother’s love for her daughter.
