Miami is home to one of the largest outdoor arts festivals in the country. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival has been an annual event since it was established in 1963. Attracting tens of thousands of visitors yearly, the festival has something for everyone of all ages. From food, to sculptures, to paintings, there is something for everyone to enjoy at the Coconut Grove Arts Festival.
Many people make it a tradition to go every year with their friends and family. Going to the festival is a great way to support the community and immerse yourself in the arts.
“We grew up going to it as little kids and getting to experience it as adults was such a fun time,” Coach Vicky McKeon said. “We loved getting to see so many local artists display their work, enjoyed the food, and the amazing atmosphere! We will continue to go and carry on our family tradition.”
The festival provides inspiration for young artists wanting to pursue careers in the arts. Many of the artists love to interact with the youth and give advice on how to improve their skills.
“I really enjoyed being exposed to so many different art mediums, from ceramics to oil pastels and textiles,” senior Natalia Perez Rodriguez said. “As an artist myself, I am grateful for the opportunity to meet and speak with other artists. I visited the festival with two friends and I really enjoyed being able to spend time with them in an intellectual environment.”
Artists travel from all over the world to have their work at the festival, so there are new things to see every year. The Coconut Grove Arts Festival has brought together people who care about their community for 60 years.
“The Coconut Grove Arts Festival was a great experience! It was really nice to see how art has the power to unite” Mrs. Alexandra Kopczyk said. “Not only was it an opportunity to appreciate the work of so many talented artists from around the world, but it also brought together the entire Miami community for a day of family and fun in one of our most beloved neighborhoods: the Grove.”
