In this day and age, where peer-pressure and low self-confidence are prevalent in the lives of teenagers, it is difficult to find someone so unique and sure of themselves. Senior Victoria Turros, however, strives to always be different and do what makes her happy, regardless of what anyone else has to say about it.
One way she does this is by embracing color and unique patterns into her fashion choices. She wears what she genuinely likes and doesn’t conform to society’s standards. While going to a school that requires a uniform, it can be difficult to express your individuality, since everyone is wearing the same thing, but Turros has created unique ways to allow her creativity to shine in.
“At school, since I can’t wear that many accessories because they would be distracting, I usually wear small colorful pieces that show off my personality,” Turros said. “For example, I put pins and decorations on my lanyard and I also make my own fun earrings that I wear to add a little creativity to my uniform.”
All teenagers experiment and try new hobbies that they think they might enjoy, but usually these hobbies include: playing a different sport or signing up for a new club. For Victoria Turros, however, a hobby that she fully embraces and has enjoyed for quite some time is playing the trumpet.
“I started playing the trumpet when I was in fourth grade and I realized that I really enjoyed it,” Turros said. “I know that it’s not the most common hobby for a teenage girl to have, but it makes me happy and that’s all I really care about.”
Victoria Turros constantly radiates positivity and acceptance to everyone she meets. She does this because she personally knows the importance of being your true self and not caring about anyone else’s opinions.
“I think that embracing the weird, different aspects of someone’s personality is what makes people interesting,” Turros said. “It’s okay to be different from everyone else because eventually you will find people that you have things in common with and create your own little community.”
