On Friday, September 20th, the school’s performing arts department hosted what they called an “Out of this World” Coffee Night. Students and families were invited to attend and enjoy the multitude of performances that the girls had prepared, while also enjoying delicious coffee drinks and snacks.
“We started creating dance numbers and medleys about a month before the actual performance,” senior Natalie Pando said. “We put so much effort into making our acts perfect by rehearsing every class and practicing on our own, as well as helping out the other girls in our classes.”
All students enrolled in Lourdes Singers, Chamber Ensemble, or Jazz Cats classes were able to showcase their talents as well as the new skills they’ve learned in their classes, taught by Ms. Michelle Garcia-Bode, commonly referred to as Ms. G.
“Performing at Coffee Night is a great way for girls to work together on a project right at the start of the school year,” Ms. G. said. “It helps the girls strengthen their voices as a group and by themselves.”
This coffee night served as a place where students could step outside of their comfort zone and realize their potential as performers in a supportive and caring environment.
“Coffee Night was my first time actually performing on stage,” senior Veronica Pernas said. “I was really nervous at first, but the support from the audience and my friends gave me the confidence to keep going.”
The event offered a mix of solo and group performances, giving each performer a moment in the spotlight. From an 80’s medley, performed by the Lourdes Singers III class, to a beautiful rendition of “Mia and Sebastian’s Theme” from La La Land, performed on the piano by sophomore Genesis Sosa, the sheer talent and hard work showcased by these girls was evident throughout the night.
“I loved seeing my friends perform,” senior Megan Bermejo said. “I didn’t really appreciate or even understand how talented they were before this, so seeing them sing and dance to some of my favorite songs was honestly mind-blowing.”
In addition to the captivating performances, audience members enjoyed complimentary coffee and sweet desserts. The coffee bar was a hit, serving everything from cappuccinos to iced caramel lattes. Many students and parents took the opportunity to grab a delicious drink between performances, adding to the relaxed and social atmosphere of the evening.
