What happens when a baker, a boss, and a family recipe come together? Pure magic, the ooey, gooey kind that can only be found in a chocolate chip cookie that tastes and feels like “home.”
Founded by Erik “The Baker” and his wife Steph “The Boss,” Sweet Lich’s Bakery, pronounced “Sweet Licks,” began in Erik’s childhood kitchen and has since found its sweet spot in South Miami at 6104 S. Dixie Hwy. Through a full line of baked goods and treats, they’ve turned a once-family recipe into a thriving business and a cherished community of cookie lovers.
“Erik is to thank for his family’s sweet recipes. From cookies to pies, it all comes from him. It started in his house and has broadened into something so much more, something truly amazing,” Jayda Orbe, baker and sales associate, said.
According to an interview with VoyageMIA, the name Sweet Lich’s was derived from Erik’s last name, Lichter. The moniker is a product of a Jewish American father and a Catholic Colombian mother, further sweetened by a Belgian and Haitian wife who now runs the day-to-day business. Erik started baking the family recipe as a first-year law student during winter break and found it to be a successful endeavor that could grow into a loving legacy for his family.
The bakery is a testament to that legacy—a celebration of tradition and togetherness. Whether it’s a birthday or a baby shower, a reward for a job well done, or the perfect ending to any meal, Sweet Lich’s celebrates life’s moments. Recipes feature the finest ingredients and a dash of creativity, paying homage to the family’s humble beginnings and the diversity of the community they proudly serve through seasonal flavors that change monthly.
“Our Original Chocolate Chip cookie is by far the most popular of our cookie selections. The Guava and Cookies & Cream are the next top two flavors. From our ice cream selection, Milk & Cookies takes the lead and is considered by some ‘to be dangerous,’ and for pies, the Triple Threat—featuring a brownie base, marshmallow middle, and chocolate chip cookie top—along with the Key Lime Pie ‘take the cake,’ as they say,” Caroline Findeisen, baker and sales associate, said.
The entire portfolio of cookies and desserts is handcrafted and freshly baked each day by the dozen. Call-aheads and online orders are encouraged, but all are welcome to walk in and experience the Sweet Lich’s love. From the comforting, welcome-home aroma of freshly baked cookies to the cozy, aesthetic cookie-inspired bench and the pink and blue hand-painted wall mural featuring Erik’s and Steph’s two little girls, the space just says, and feels, family.
“I have tried almost all of their cookies and in each of them, you can taste the perfect combination of melted butter and brown sugar. Everyone who works there is so sweet and kind, and the place is as cozy and pretty as are their cookies,” senior Cecilia de Solo said.
Speaking of celebrating milestones, Sweet Lich’s just marked its one-year anniversary at the South Miami location this past August. They also have a Cookie Caravan that carries the magic into your home and local community events, with customizable options that include stunning cookie dessert tables, DIY ice cream sandwich bars, Cookie & Beverage pairings, and so much more. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the Sweet Lich’s family, their team invites you to create your own cherished family traditions by bringing a little extra magic to every moment.
