As the spooky season comes to an end, we can look back and reminisce whether it be our time trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, or for the ladies of OLLA, strutting down a runway wearing their very best for the annual Pumpkin Pageant. A tradition dating back years multiple decades, the pageant has come to be one of the most memorable events of the school year. We gather as a school to not only celebrate the holiday, but to share joy in one another’s creativity whether the costume is intricate or humorous.
When it comes to the positives of 2024’s Pumpkin Pageant, sophomore Julieta Zozoya claims that in comparison to her freshman experience, this year was more intricate when it came to not only the detailing of the costumes shown, but the variety of ideas as well. This had also been the case for the performances while strutting their outfits as everyone had their own unique demeanors as they glided down the scream-filled gym acting as if their bodies had been possessed by the characters they had been impersonating.
In the case of sophomore Angelina Codeso, the highlight of her Pumpkin Pageant had been the grades infamous costume which won by a landslide, Trump along with his Secret Service agents. She found the idea to be hilarious and creative in the detail and humor that came with it, and as she claimed it to be a hit, this could be supported by the booming laughter and applause that followed the group.
Even in lieu of these amazing experiences spent by some of our own, only the Lord is Perfect and junior Grace Moure was impressed with the event, but unimpressed with the lack of interviews. “The Pumpkin Pageant has progressed over the years, and as last year we had more time to interview those about their costumes and how they came to be, this year the interviews started off strong but we unfortunately didn’t have as much time and so we weren’t able to see the participants’ train of thought.” Although she was sad due to the lack of testimonials that came with it, she expressed that she herself was also a fan of the Trump and his Secret Service costume and that she would have loved to learn how the group had come together and put in so much effort to show such a humorous while respectful portrayal of the politician.
With another great spooky season passed, there’s a hope that next year is even more smashing than before! At the end of the day, the more scares, the merrier!
