In 2022 the Lourdes Dance Team competed at the Universal Dance Association High School Nationals for the first time ever. Fast forward four years later, we returned home with a first and fourth place national championship title in the D2 Large Varsity category, and second place in the D2 Large Junior Varsity category, making program history. This was a monumental moment for us to show the world what we’re capable of.

As captain of the Varsity team, to say I am proud and elated is an understatement. I have been on the team since my freshman year, and to witness the growth we’ve made since then fills me with joy. Every year we have improved significantly and our coach has given us all the necessary tools to get better. Without the efforts made to get out of our comfort zones and push the boundaries, we would not have made it this far.
In May of 2024, we learned our hip hop routine (which would end up becoming our winning routine), and since then have rehearsed this routine nonstop to prepare it for the nationals floor. Throughout the entire season, we only work on two routines. Practicing and detailing them for nine months straight, to be on stage for a total of four minutes.
The feeling of winning is so satisfying to know that every eight hour Saturday rehearsal, bruised knee, bloody toe, and all the exhaustion was worth it. We invest so much of our time and energy into the dance team, and to be recognized for our hard work and dedication is so relieving.
Beyond the trophies and medals, the greatest gift of all is the unique and beautiful relationship we have with one another. To go on a journey such as this one with your best friends by your side is truly so special. The bond that the Lourdes Dancers share is unlike any other. We always support and root for each other. That love is the biggest factor of our success and the most rewarding part of the whole experience.
