February 9th, 2025 the event all football fans have been anticipating finally came to fruition, The Superbowl. This year’s lineup was one for the books as it was an exact copy of last year’s. The Kansas City Chiefs played The Philadelphia Eagles in a nail-biting round of the good old American Game.
The Eagles scored an unexpected yet decisive victory with a final score of 40 to 22, making up for their previous loss to the Chiefs in 2023’s Super Bowl game. Quarterback Jalen Hurts carried the team in an outstanding performance, making him this year’s Super Bowl MVP.
Despite the shocking turn of events in the actual game, perhaps the most surprising event of the night was the long-awaited halftime show. The show was headlined by Grammy-winning artist Kendrick Lamar. Lamar performed numerous amount of his biggest hits along with an especially aggressive rendition of his diss track “Not Like Us,” where he gave a sassy shoutout to Drake.
The show also included a surprise appearance by Samuel L. Jackson as Uncle Sam where he referenced key elements of American History. Lamar also utilized the colors of the American Flag to further emphasize this year’s theme of American Unity in the show.
He also brought out award-winning singer, Sza as his guest appearance as well as Serena Williams who served as yet another diss to Drake and their long-time history of beef.
The event also housed many celebrities, including Jay-Z, Bradley Cooper, Tom Brady, and Paul McCartney. Perhaps the most notable celebrity was none other than President Donald Trump, who arrived with a full team of security and measures to ensure his safety throughout the game.
Another huge part of the game is the epic commercials. From Alix Earle in a Carl’s Jr. commercial to the nostalgic muppets cameo, the eccentricity in this year’s commercials was on another level. Additionally, there were several nods to more serious issues such as climate change and artificial intelligence.
The Eagle’s shocking comeback and Kendrick Lamar’s gutsy performance made it a memorable Superbowl. One that reminds us of the unity created by none other than the Great American pastime.
