From the first serve to the final spike, fans were on the edge of their seats. In a high-impact match filled complete suspense, celebration, and school spirit, the Varsity Volleyball team came out on top with a historic 3–2 win over longtime rivals, the Westminster Warriors.

In a long-anticipated matchup, the gym was packed wall to wall. The crowd brought the energy, and the team brought the skill. After 18 years of competing against Westminster, the Lourdes bobcats for the first time brought home the big win.

“I am so grateful that I was able to be on this amazing team during two historic milestones representing our school,” said junior Alexa Espin, a three-year varsity player. “This one truly felt special.”

This game was more than just a win. It was the result of high intensity, preparation and faith. Earlier that morning, the team received a special blessing during the schoolwide Installation Mass. The moment gave them a sense of calm and confidence heading into the match.

“It’s been a long time coming,” said Deacon Louis Phang Sang, a sophomore theology teacher and one of the biggest supporters of the athletics program at OLLA. “We came very close last year, and I think that inspired the girls. I was so glad we were able to have that blessing by Father Sebastian during Installation Mass.”

The team’s long hours of summer conditioning and practice paid off. Every set was hard-fought, and their focus showed in every rally that kept the crowd holding its breath.

“The girls played with a lot of grace,” said Health and Exercise Science teacher Ms. Marian Garcia. “I know firsthand that a lot of hard work went into preparing for this game, and they carried themselves really well.”

Students from every grade came to support the Bobcats. The spirit of sisterhood filled the gym. Even the quietest fans were swept up in the excitement.

“Last night’s game was so close and very exhilarating,” said English teacher Mrs. Melissa Falcon. “I loved seeing all the grades come together to cheer on our Bobcats.”

At the very last point of the fifth set, the scoreboard confirmed it. Lourdes had won. Proud OLLA parents, siblings, friends and fans rushed down from the stands to join students on the court in a spirited mosh pit.

Westminster fans wore all black, while Lourdes fans stood out in white, packing the student section with light and spirit. Lola the Bobcat and the Lourdes cheerleaders added even more energy to a unforgettable night

It was the perfect way to start the season, and a milestone that showed this team is ready for what’s to be ‘served up’ this season.
