For 18 Sundays a year, football dominates TV screens, from 10 am kick-offs to 7 pm games. On Saturdays, it’s all about college football for 13 weeks straight. Game after game, fans spend weeks analyzing teams, placing bets, and preparing for game days.
Football is one of the most watched sports in America, so what do our students feel about the NFL versus the CFB? While both leagues share the same game, each brings its own unique advantage.
“I’ve always loved football since I was little, especially the Eagles. I love keeping up with the players and stats,” junior Ava Hernandez said.

The NFL is the professional football league featuring the “best” players and the highly anticipated Super Bowl. The competition in the NFL is with higher stakes and a more intense level of competition since the players are doing this as their career and are experienced. Off the field, the league attracts viewers to their iconic halftime performance and the lives of the players, especially the WAGs.
“Being able to watch football from the eyes of the players’ wives is so cool,” sophomore Kateyln Basto said. “I love seeing Alix Earle, Taylor Swift, and Hailee Steinfeld all support their partners playing their sport.”
The NFL showcases some elite talent, but many students say college football has a spirit that feels closer to home. College football seems to be garnering more attention each year. Their game days are enriched with tradition and dedication to one team or school. The tailgates, the chants, the outfits, and the passion all create this electric atmosphere that feels truly unique.
“Hearing ‘MrBrightside’ in UMich was so fun; everyone was so into the game, and it was something I’ve never experienced before in my life,” senior Jessica Lee said.
Most students start their game day early, attending tailgates and dressing in the college colors. Even if the team plays badly, the stands are filled, constantly cheering on their school.
“The swamp is my favorite place to watch games. I go to an early tailgate, and then the game is just so much fun because the whole stadium is in UF colors and everyone’s excited,” said senior Sofi Socarras.
The NFL is the pinnacle of football and the biggest stage for athletes. It delivers high-stakes action, but it’s the heart of college football, the traditions, the community, and the emotion that really entices our students. The stadiums covered in school colors, the chants passed down from generation to generation. In the end, both leagues have something to offer. Whether it’s Saturday or Sunday, it allows our students to experience a fun environment and connect with others.
