Last Thursday, on the eve of Halloween, our school hosted its annual Pumpkin Pageant in the Gym. On this day, all students were allowed to dress up as anything they wanted, but only the best costumes were chosen for the pageant. The Pumpkin Pageant has been a staple in our Halloween celebrations for many years. Each FOCUS can choose the best costume to represent their grade in the school-wide contest.
“Halloween Pageant is always so fun, it’s our second year participating,” said senior council member Julianna Sequera. “Dressing up alongside all of the senior council is so fulfilling, especially knowing it’s our last year.”

During the pageant, the rest of the student body can vote for the best costume, and live results determine the favorite for each grade. After the best costume from each grade has been decided, the top 4 are polled on Instagram. The online audience then chooses the final winner. The fan favorite is awarded spirit points for their grade.
The best voted costumes from each grade were the Sophomores as the Titanic, Junior Council as the cast of The Summer I Turned Pretty, and the Freshmen as the Sage Dining crew in fourth place. The ultimate winner after both live and online voting was the seniors as White Chicks.
“It feels amazing to win and be the junior defending champs of the pageant,” said junior class moderator Mrs. Martinez. “We were planning it for weeks and the girls made sure we had

everything we needed to make this costume a success.”
Every year, the most creative costumes are revealed at the pageant. Students and teachers alike walk the runway to their chosen songs and show off their creations. This year, some of the most popular costumes around school were Wicked and the thieves from the Louvre heist. Fan favorite creative costumes included senior student council as Hamilton and juniors as the Just Dance “Waka Waka” dancers.
“My favorite costume was definitely the Trolls group costume, I thought they really committed to it, their walk was so funny, and it payed off,” said senior Monica Cornide.
Team OLLA’s best costumes also had the chance to hit the runway and show off their

creations. A couple notable costumes were Mrs. Pino and Ms. Tuñon as Glinda and Elphaba, and always a fan favorite, Mrs. Kenny with her dogs. Overall, the pageant proved to be another success and the best part of our Halloween celebrations.
