Passionate, persistent, and promising— the soccer team proudly plays this season, purposeful of yet another state title.

“I can’t even express how happy I am that we made it all the way to states once again,” senior Samantha Diaz said.

The soccer team competes for their third state title this Friday, February 25 in DeLand, Florida at 1:00 p.m.

Their talent has been demonstrated throughout their successful season, especially these past few weeks as they impressively secured their spot in the 2022 FHSAA Soccer State Championship.

“Getting to states is so rewarding because we have all worked so hard for this,” sophomore Eva Cova said.

The team defeated Doral Academy in the District Championship on February 3rd in penalty kicks.

“The district game was super nerve-racking since we were tied 1-1 the whole game and even through overtime,” sophomore Tessa Abreu says. “But the feeling of relief and pride when we won in PKs was so overwhelming; best feeling ever.”

They then advanced to Regional Quarterfinals where they impressively won against Seminole Ridge 6-1. Regionals Semi Finals had the crowd on the edge of their seats as they won in overtime versus Dwyer (4-3). The team finally secured their advancement, on the Christopher Columbus field, to states by a 1-0 win against Doral Academy. The team then won in the State Semifinals at Belen Jesuit High School 2-1 versus Land O’s Lakes.

“It seemed like the whole school was at the game, wearing blue and cheering on the team,” junior Catalina Giorgio says. “We were all so happy when they won.”

As the state final approaches, players train hard and students never fail to support them.

Two hundred students, mostly seniors and juniors, are traveling on fan buses this Friday to cheer on their sisters. The limited seats on the bus were claimed as soon as students were given the chance, selling out within 17 minutes.

“The link to get a seat on the bus was sent out at 5:00 p.m.,” junior Carolina Crippa says. “I opened it about 15 minutes later and there were only 3 seats left.”

The rest of the student body will watch the game from school together during FOCUS. The game will be streamed for the community.
