This year marked the 80th Golden Globes Awards, the award show is dedicated to celebrating the achievements of those in the television and film industry. The Golden Globes aired Wednesday, taking over headlines. The host fell flat in his opening monologue, with two of his jokes receiving a silent reaction from the crowd. Celebrities graced the red carpet wearing their best from glittery dresses to elegant gowns. From high fashion, gossip, to scandal, everyone has been talking about it. 

The outfits this year were average, some looked incredible and others were done very dirty with their outfits. Margot Robbie was dressed in a flawless replica of the 1977 Superstar Barbie. Andra Day looked elegant and mysterious with her black dress. Some made the most out of their outfits by making jokes out of them. Dua Lipa posted a funny TikTok of her attempting to sit in her dress and an injured Pedro Pascal showed up with his arm in a sling with each nail painted to spell out ‘ouch’. However there were some fashion fails. Keri Russel’s dress looks like shredded paper pieced together. Fantasia Barrino was probably one of the worst dressed of the night.

Selena Gomez was caught under the gossip train. She was videoed gossiping with Taylor Swift and Keleigh Teller. It was rumored that she was talking about trying to get a photo with Timothée Chalamet but his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner said no. Since Kylie and Selena have a complicated history, this speculation caused divided fans on whose side to take. However, Selena denied this in a comment on Instagram saying, “I told Taylor about two of my friends who hooked up. Not that that’s anyone business.” This was also confirmed to People Magazine that Selena “was absolutely not referencing anything about Timothée or Kylie” and she “never even saw or spoke to” either of them. 

The real scandal of the night was the host Jo Koy. He had ten days to write his opening monologue, and somehow the stand-up comedian couldn’t come up with anything actually funny. In case you missed his jokes here are some he made about the Barbie movie, “Barbie is about a plastic doll with big boobies” and “It was weird being attracted to a plastic doll.” He made other jokes about the movie that honestly were just about the objectification of women. His joke about Taylor Swift just as bad, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.” In such a big year for women in the industry, Jo Koy went out of his way to try to take that away from them. He has since tried to defend himself saying that, “It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not gonna lie”. Taking everything that happened into account, this year’s Golden Globes definitely went down in the books.
