Congratulations freshmen, you survived your first week as a high school student. It can be scary trying to navigate the halls and finding who to sit with at lunch. Coming into a new environment can be overwhelming. Throughout the four years of high school, every student experiences many ups and downs, but at the end of the day students can always rely on the sisterhood.
Just a year ago, the sophomores were in your shoes. But they made it through and learned some lessons along the way.
“During my freshman year, I was so nervous about my grades and classes,” sophomore Nicole Garcia said, “but then I learned how to budget my time, by using FOCUS and any free time for my homework and studying.”
Freshman year is scary for everyone, especially if you don’t know many people, but luckily all Lourdes Girls have the upperclassmen to guide them through their first year of high school. The Big sister/ Little sister pairing has been around since the start of the school and is built to give the youngest students guidance through this new adventure.
“The best part of my freshman year was probably my big sister,” junior Hailey Scott said. “She really welcomed me and made me feel part of the Lourdes sisterhood.”
Although freshman year can be nerve racking, there are many exciting things to look forward to in the next four years. The most surprising thing for seniors is just how quickly the four years go by.
“The best way to meet people is to try new things and get involved in all kinds of activities and classes,” senior Giselle Urbina.
Most students get excited about the big activities like OLLAFest and Spirit Week.
“Olla fest is definitely something to look forward to,” senior Gianna Espineira said. “I love olla fest because we get to play some creative fun games. I also like being able to dress up and show class spirit.”
Students shouldn’t miss other opportunities to get involved and find lifelong friends and sisters.
“The best advice I have is for freshmen to be social and not let things go by,” senior Brooke Castillo said.
