All across social media, people are regularly pictured wearing hoodies, expensive sneakers, graphic t-shirts, sweatpants, a style referred to as “Streetwear”.

Street wear is a casual fashion style that is trendy yet comfortable at the same time. Shawn Stussy, a surfboard maker, is often credited for being the originator of this style. Without him, designers such as Off-White and Vetements wouldn’t exist today. This style first became popular in the 1990s, and has recently been reintroduced.

Streetwear style is usually neutral colors, but can consist of dark and bright as well. It is very popular among creators and famous people, and continues to sprout on different social media platforms. Celebrities such as Hailey Bieber and Rihanna have been pictured embracing Streetwear style.

“This is one of my favorite fashion trends because it makes me feel very put together and I feel like myself and belong in the clothing,” sophomore Mia Iglesias said.

Because of the sudden popularity of this trend, many feel like themselves in it. Some believe this trend is going to last because it is very basic and easy to accomplish, it combines both cute and comfortable pieces. It makes many feel confident.

“I love the new streetwear style because it gives me a way to express myself while being comfortable,” sophomore Iglesias said.

Since streetwear style has been worn and embraced by many, therefore multiple tips and pointers have been developed. For example, little details, such as accessories, have been recommended to enhance an outfit. These small, but significant elements help put together an outfit and make it feel complete.

“Make sure to add accessories,” sophomore Iglesias said.

Whenever a new trend pops up on social media, most people’s first question is, is it comfortable and affordable? Many say that Streetwear is very comfortable, due to the use of sweatpants and sweaters, but may be expensive at times. Because of the different stores where pieces of clothing were purchased, prices may vary. Higher end stores such as Urban Outfitters and Boutiques may be considered expensive in the eyes of buyers. Some alternate, cheaper stores with streetwear styles including Adika, Pretty Little Thing, and Zara.

“The piece may be expensive at times, so when this occurs, I look on other sites to find something similar that’s cheaper,” junior Reboredo said.

An everyday outfit may look like sweatpants or baggy jeans, a large tee shirt or crew neck, statement high top sneakers like Nike Air Jordans, and multiple rings and necklaces. A key to this style is anything “oversized”. This size of clothing makes people feel especially comfortable and confident in themselves.

“To me, a Streetwear style outfit looks like Baggy jeans, Nike Jordan’s, oversized crew neck, and several rings and necklaces,” Reboredo said.

Overall, this trend makes people feel both comfortable and confident. It is a style that is here to stay.
